Their deteriorating physical strength and geriatric illnesses add to their problems. Often poor financial support, lack of affordable Health Care and general neglect of society has propelled Aashraya Charitable Trust, to do something for such elderly people so that they can lead a reasonably good quality of life.
It has been proven again and again (and also endorsed by health professionals) that elders who are part of social or work group fare much better in terms of physical and emotional well-being. Hence, solution seems to lie in like minded-elders forming small groups and working together on socially useful projects, which not only benefits the society but is of immense benefit to elders themselves as it keeps them socially engaged and impart a sense of self-worth.
